After suffering back to back defeats, Richmond SC will be hoping to pull off an upset against the Goulburn Valley Suns at Kevin Bartlett Reserve this Saturday afternoon. The Eagles are sitting firmly on the bottom of the NPL2 East ladder and with only two matches left to play, they are in imminent danger of relegation.
Last week’s defeat at the hands of Moreland City was particularly demoralising for Richmond, who lost by a margin of four goals to one. In spite of the negatives, Richmond can take some positives from the match.
Toward the end of the second half, they put up a good fight and prevented Moreland City from running away with the game entirely. Ten minutes before full time, Valli Cesnik gave the Eagles a morale boost by scoring their first and only goal. However, Richmond will have their work cut out for them against the powerful Goulburn Valley Suns this week and their performance will have to improve dramatically if they are to have a chance at victory.
The last time the two teams faced each other was in round 14. During that clash, the Eagles suffered a crushing 7-2 defeat. Although much of the first half was closely contested, during the second half the Suns managed to score 6 of their 7 goals.
Richmond will be hoping to do considerably better this week, particularly as this is their last chance for a victory in front of a home ground crowd this season. Meanwhile, the Goulburn Valley Suns have been in impressive form lately. They are in 4th position on the NPL2 East ladder and are coming in to this match after a 2-1 win over Melbourne Victory and they will be hoping for their momentum to continue.
This Saturday afternoon, action will commence at the usual time of 1 PM with the under-20s, while the seniors will kick off at 3 PM.
