With the end of the season drawing nearer and the threat of relegation hanging over their heads, Richmond SC will have to dig deep and pull off an upset against their formidable opponents Moreland City at Kevin Bartlett Reserve this Friday night.
Two weeks ago, things were looking reasonably hopeful for the Eagles as they faced rivals the Eastern Lions after an impressive 1-0 win against the in-form Murray United in round 24. However, the hopes of the Richmond supporters were dashed by the Eastern Lions who overpowered the Eagles in the second half and claimed both a 2-0 victory and 3 vital points.
Richmond can take consolation from the fact that they put up a solid defence throughout the majority of the match and did not allow the Eastern Lions to gain a lead untill half way through the second 45 minutes. However, if Richmond are to be successful this week, it will be vital for them to make the most of the goal scoring opportunities that come their way. They failed to do this on several occasions against the Eastern Lions.
After a one week break, Richmond will return home to Kevin Bartlett Reserve for the first time in several weeks for their clash against Moreland City this Friday night. The two teams have not yet faced each other this season and while the Eagles remain in 9th place on the ladder and are fighting to stay in the league, Moreland City has been in good form and are currently positioned 3rd on the NPL2 West ladder. After losing 2-1 to the Whittlesea Ranges, Moreland City will be eager to get their momentum back and prevent Richmond from regaining theirs.
This Friday night, the Under-20s will kick proceedings off at the usual time of 6.30 PM, followed by the seniors who will take to the field at 8.30 PM.
