Richmond SC will be hoping for their second victory in two weeks as they face the Eastern Lions at Gardiners Creek Reserve this Saturday afternoon. The Eagles remain in 9th position on the NPL2 East ladder and are still in danger of relegation from the league. This match will be highly significant, as the Eastern Lions are currently seated on the bottom of the ladder and will be equally determined to improve their position and stay in the league.
Last week’s match provided a confidence boost for the Eagles as they managed to snatch a 1-0 win over Murray United, who had been seated fourth on the ladder at the time and have been a highly competitive force throughout most of the season. Dion Gavalas played particularly well for the Eagles, putting them in the lead in the first half and scoring the only goal of the match.
Although they did not score again, the Eagles were able to defend their lead throughout the remainder of the match, providing very few chances for the opposition to take it from them. Richmond supporters will be hoping for more of the same against the Eastern Lions this week.
The two teams last came up against each other in round 10. In that match, the Eagles went on the attack early in the match and pulled off a clean sheet 2-0 win. This week, while Richmond will be aiming for back to back wins, the Eastern Lions will be hoping to move off the bottom of the ladder and redeem themselves after a 1-0 loss to Dandenong Thunder.
This Saturday afternoon, action will begin at the usual time of 1 PM with the Under-20s, followed by the seniors who will kick off at 3 PM.
